Marriner Theatres - Case Study VIC

Marriner Theatres boasts five of Melbourne's magnificent landmark heritage theatres, and as a provider of world class venues, Marriner Theatres has become renowned for its event production, theatrical expertise, fine food, and for delivering the most spectacular events in Melbourne.

The REGENT, PRINCESS, FORUM and COMEDY theatres all have played host to some of the biggest shows and stars of the entertainment world, a circumstance that would not have been possible were it not for David Marriner's dedication in restoring and preserving some of Melbourne's finest venues.

History
Despite being one of the country's pre-eminent theatres, practically since the settlement of Melbourne, (the original Princess Theatre and Opera House was built in 1852 and the New Princess Theatre, the current building in 1886), by the 1980's the theatre had fallen into an almost terminal state of disrepair. David Marriner restored the venue, and in 1989 the Princess Theatre reopened with Cameron Mackintosh's production of Les Miserables which ran for 9 months, followed shortly thereafter by the Australian premiere of The Phantom of the Opera.

Greg Watt said," Managing the requirements of a portfolio of very public heritage-listed buildings presents its own particular set of challenges. With our long association with Essential Property Services, it was comforting to know that our essential safety measures compliance, with services such as essential safety measures inspections , fire door inspections, contractor monitoring and preparation of the Annual Essential Safety Measures Reports are being professionally managed. The EPS connection with the Hendry Building Surveying consultancy proved invaluable in dealing with the many issues related to the restoration works, and the challenges of operating successful heritage-listed public entertainment venues, while still providing a level of safety and amenity commensurate with current community expectations".
