Essential Safety Measures Determinations: Schedules

EPS staff are experienced and familiar with each State's statutory forms, (which are generally known as essential safety measures determinations or essential safety measures schedule) including the many variations that have existed over the years. These documents are integral in the development of the essential safety measures inspection, maintenance and annual statement system. Each state has its own 'standard forms' that building surveyors/ certifiers must use when issuing essential safety measures determinations or schedules.

Essential Safety Measures Determinations: Existing

Some of the essential safety measures determinations forms stakeholders may be aware of are:

  • Victoria - Maintenance Schedule or Maintenance Determination
  • Queensland - Certificate of Classification
  • New South Wales - Fire Safety Schedule or Fire Safety Certificate
  • South Australia - Schedule of Essential Safety Measures
  • Tasmania - Schedule of Essential Safety and Health Features or a Schedule of Essential Safety and Health Measures
  • Western Australia - no essential safety measures forms
  • Northern Territory - no essential safety measures forms
  • Australian Capital Territory - no essential safety measures forms

Building RegulationPrevious essential safety measures determinations or essential safety measures schedules may exist and reside with either the municipal building surveyor or with a private building surveyor. EPS can help locate the determinations or schedules and include them in our logbooks.

Obtaining essential safety measures determinations and essential safety measures schedules for a building is a fundamental regulatory requirement on building owners (occupiers) under most Building Regulations maintenance provisions. Copies of the essential safety measures determinations can usually be obtained from the local council.

Australia's Building Legislation
